Trends in summer wear and beach wear change every year. Not so long ago there was a fashion for skimpy speedo style swimming trunks for men and near invisible micro-bikinis for women. Luckily these trends are changing.
Todays swimwear and beach wear fashions are primarily comfortable and practical, inspired by retro fashions from long ago. Board shortsare a top fashion item this year for men and women. Ideal for all forms of beach activity including volleyball and football. They're also the best thing to wear when surfing.
Bikinis are still the favorite for many girls and women but the fashion is no longer for micro bikininis. The bikinis on the beaches this summer are more like those that would have been seen in St Tropez in the fifties and sixties. Practical yet very stylish and much more modest than the skimpy costumes we've seen in recent years.
All in one costumes are making a comeback for women. This is great news if you don't feel comfortable in a bikini. Some of the designs that are making a resurgence originate from the forties and fifties. If you can think of Marilyn Monroe in those lold Life magazine photographs from the forties and fifties these are the styles that we will be seeing more of.
Sarongs are set to remain a popular beach cover up for women. And it looks like short sleeved sports shirts will be the popular choice for men.
For footwear it is most definitely flip flops all the way. Flip flops are, without doubt, the most practical and adaptable form of beach footwear. Ideal for those pebbly beaches where it can be painful to walk down to the water. The real beauty of flip flops is that they are so cheap you can afford to buy several pairs.
One thing that is very out of fashion this year is a deep, dark brown tan. Increased awareness of the harmful effects of the sun's radiation means that we will all be applying generous layers of high factor sun block.
